Rostislav Vaněk (1945), typographer and graphic designer, who has worked in nearly all fields of graphic design. He worked on logos, posters, books, exhibitions, large visual communication projects (Prague Metro), corporate identity and post stamps. After finishing a degree at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in 1969, he worked there in 1970-1977 as an assistant in the Graphic Design studio. In 1977-1984, he was the head of the art desk of the Československý spisovatel publishing house. Apart from designing books for this publishing house, he also designed books for Odeon, Mladá fronta, Albatros, Lidové noviny and other publishers. His works are always rooted in strong typography, he focused on calligraphy and hand drawn type. Since 2001, he is the head of the Graphic Design and Visual Communication studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. In the past three years, he focuses on classic type design.
His works won numerous awards in national and international competitions and he is one of the strongest promoters of the Graphic Design Biennial in Brno. He is one of the founders of the Typo & group and of the Typodesignclub, where he is a chairman.
